An Ottawa Carleton District School Board report says Broadview Public school needs renovations, and a lot of them.
The report says the school needs $7.5 million to repair the gym, windows, and dangerous electrical boxes, as well as to remove hazardous substances such as asbestos and lead-based paints.
The school also says it needs $1.35 million right away to fix the heating system.
Parents attending a recent school meeting expressed concern for their children’s safety, adding they were considering changing schools.
The costs suggested in the report come to more than half the cost of building a brand new school.
Parents have been calling for repairs to be done for more than a year.
The school has received $4-million so far, coming from a $16-million budget from the province, that is meant to be divided with other schools.
