OTTAWA – A 32-year-old construction worker is in critical condition after his vehicle came in contact with a hydro line at a job site in Barrhaven on Thursday afternoon.
The man was working for Dig Safe, a company contracted out by Hydro Ottawa.
Two other colleagues who worked for Greely Construction received electrical shocks but were able to pull their co-worker away from the truck and perform CPR. Paramedics arrived on scene at about 3 p.m. and were able to restore the man’s heartbeat on the way to the hospital.
They were digging holes to install new hydro poles when their boom vacuum truck accidentally hit a low hanging hydro wire.
Hydro Ottawa had cut power to 1,200 customers for safety reason but have since restored power in the area.
Moodie Drive between Fallowfield and Cambrian Roads was closed for several hours while The Ministry of Labour investigated the accident.
