Sens fans “Paint it Red”

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators begin round one of the playoffs this Thursday night in New York where they’ll take on the Rangers and as the city gets decked out hanging signs marking the Sens Mile, the club wants you to “Paint it Red.”

They want to see you step it up a notch and decorate your home, your bedroom, yourself or your business for their “Paint it Red” campaign.

Anyone and everyone can take part and Rob, who manages the Guardian pharmacy on Elgin, said it helps build community spirit.

“We have stickers and we’re going to be, uh, probably shouting,” he said. “That’s the only decorations we have so far.”

In the past they’ve also hung flags and banners in the windows to help cheer on the Sens.

Over at the Bridgehead on Elgin, manager Joseph told 1310News in-house chalk artists will help to paint their coffee shop red, decorating the message boards which usually show the daily specials.

The Senators encourage everyone to get involved and to get creative and Minoo, the owner of Bel Fiore flowers on Elgin takes that idea and runs with it.

Last year Minoo decorated the front window with red and gold flowers.

“It started with saying ‘Go Sens! Go Sens! Go Sens!’ That’s just what I did with the gold and I just put it in the window and it was just very, very, um, people appreciate it in the neighbourhood,” she said. This year she’s planning an elaborate logo design using red gerbera daisies.

To get involved, send your photos in to the Ottawa Senators website for a chance to win four semi-final tickets.
