The United Nations Security Council has scheduled an emergency meeting for later Friday to discuss an attempt by North Korea to launch a rocket.
Within minutes of the launch Thursday, the rocket splintered and fell into the sea.
The U.S., Japan and South Korea had all kinds of radar and anti missle ships at the ready just in case that rocket tracked into forbidden territory.
The launch took place despite the international warnings that it would violate the UN resolution aimed at keeping North Korea from developing nuclear missle programs.
North Korea said it was launching a satellite into orbit but western intellegence suspect it was a long-range technological test.
Intelligence officials at the Pentegon are pouring over what ever flight data they were able to gather.
U.S. and South Korean naval operations are underway in the Yellow Sea to investigate the debris.
The UN Security Council considers the launch attempt as a test of long-range missile technology, despite North Korea’s claim that it was launching a communications sattelite into orbit.
The UN Security Council is set to denounce the launch at the emergency session set for Friday in New York.
