VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – On the day of the biggest game of the Canucks year, more charges have been laid from last year’s Stanley Cup Riot.
Following an investigation by the Integrated Riot Investigations Team, charges of riot, mischief and arson were laid against Andrew Comber of Salmon Arm.
Police allege the 38-year-old painted himself green, stole a stuffed bear and lit it on fire before tossing it into an overturned truck on West Georgia near Hamilton Street. Police add Comber was very active that night, seen taunting police at various locations.
Comber is also wanted in Alberta for numerous charges following an incident in 2004 after a Calgary Flames game. Police there allege he caused a fight that led to his arrest. He’s charged with theft, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.
The Southern Alberta Integrated Fugitive Apprehension Unit will be taking Comber back to Alberta to answer to those charges.
Earlier this month, Vancouver Police launched a campaign using Facebook to get your help to catch outstanding rioters. When you click on one of the ads, you will be re-directed to the VPD’s riot website.
The ads will appear on Facebook profiles of 15 to 27-year-olds who live in the Lower Mainland, Kelowna, Kamloops, Victoria, Nanaimo and Prince George.
Police expect 160,000 people to click on the ad every day.
To date, over 500 charges have been recommended in connection with last year’s riot.
Coquitlam’s Ryan Dickinson has already been sentenced to 17 months in jail for his actions that night.
UBC student Camille Cacnio entered a guilty plea earlier this month. Her sentencing hearing in set for mid-June. She is the third riot suspect to plead guilty.
