OTTAWA – The Prime Minister has made his voice clear on a controversial motion being debated Thursday afternoon in the House of Commons.
A backbench Conservative MP wants to begin a study on the definition of human life.
Stephen Harper has said in the past that he would not be reopening the abortion debate and on Wednesday he added that he would not voting for this motion.
During question period, Harper pointed out that any member can bring forward a motion.
“Every private member can table bills and motions in this house, party leaders don’t have any control over that. This motion was deemed votable by an all party committee of the house,” he explained.
Harper added that he finds this motion an unfortunate one.
However, the NDP say they do not buy what the prime minister is saying and are calling this a Trojan horse agenda.
They claim Harper has always had tight control over his caucus and if he truly did not want to reopen the abortion debate, this motion never would have seen the light of day.
