After a data card is passed, does it still work?

CHILLIWACK – What happens when it comes out? 1310News is finding out if the memory card a local hang gliding pilot is accused of swallowing after one of his passengers died would still work.

Cameron Vanderraad with Frontier PC in Vancouver says it should still work, but “[it depends] on what stomach acids have done to it.”

“It’s in a plastic coating, so unless it breaks through that, it should be more than operable. The big concern, I would think, would be on the metal contacts that the data is transferred through,” he explains.

“If you take a can of Coke and you put a metal nail in it, it’s usually done in 24 hours. The likelihood of it being able to work? I would say probably more on the ‘yes’ side than the ‘no’ side,” he adds.

There are X-ray images suggesting the memory card is still inside pilot Jon Orders. One of his passengers, 27-year-old Lenami Godinez-Avila, plummeted to her death over the weekend shortly after taking off for a tandem hang gliding flight in Agassiz.

RCMP say someone is watching the 50-year-old at all times to ensure the evidence isn’t lost. Orders is charged with obstructing justice.
