Ottawa Comiccon a success

OTTAWA – Whether it was William Shatner, Casandra Peterson or Lou Ferrigno, day one of Ottawa Commicon was a huge success.  The Ottawa Sun reported that around 24,000 attended Ottawa’s first Comiccon convention this weekend.

The CE Centre on Uplands Drive was jam-packed with costumed fans of all things comic.

Tickets had sold out for Saturday even before the doors opened. and only a limited number of tickets remained for Sunday.

Media stars include William Shatner as the guest of honour, Lou Ferrigno, Elvira, Jeremy Bulloch, John de Lancie and Vic Mignogna, as well as comic artists like Neal Adams, Darick Robertson and Dale Eaglesham.

Patrick Stewart’s appearance was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict in his agenda.

Star Trek: The Next Generation’s android Lieutenant Commander Data, Brent Spiner, and Commander Deanna Troi, Marina Sirtis were also on hand to meet fans.

The Back to the Future time machine made its first appearance ever in Ottawa. The vehicle raised funds and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
