OTTAWA, Ont. – A pilot walked away from a plane crash in North Gower with only minor injuries on Wednesday night.
The man, 68, had to make an emergency landing in a cornfield off Mackey road, just after 5 p.m. when his two-seater plane had engine trouble.
“I saw the plane circle over the farm here three or four times and each time it seemed to get lower,” said a man who lives nearby. “Finally it came out of the south, over top of the house … and the engine seemed to die right off as the plane headed across the corn field.
Miraculously, the man was able to walk away from the crash and was taken to hospital to be assessed, with only minor injuries.
“He was walking … on his own steam and he seemed fine,” says the farmer who lives across the road from the crash.”
After the crash, the plane was flipped over on its roof in the field off Mackey Road between Malakoff and Mccordrick.
