Blaze outside Bruyere Continuing Care
OTTAWA, ON – A blaze was put out in the Byward Market outside of Bruyere Continuing Care on Thursday afternoon.
A garbage bin was burning, which caused smoke to go inside the building.
Ottawa Fire did not do an evacuation, considering the nature of the patients inside the facility.

“We were able to protect them in place”, Marc Messier with Ottawa Fire told 1310News. “This means keeping them in different areas of the building that were not affected by smoke.”
After the area was ventilated, the 12 patients were allowed back in their rooms – 80 staff members were also relocated and are back in their offices.
The air quality was tested and no issues were reported.
Damage is minor and there is no word on the cause of the blaze.
