67’s deal Cody Ceci to Owen Sound

OTTAWA – The 67’s have shaken things up once again. Ottawa has traded defenceman Cody Ceci to the Owen Sound Attack, along with veteran winger Steven Janes and a third-round draft pick in 2015.
The Senators No. 1 pick in 2012 waived his no-trade clause, after three seasons with the 67’s.
“It was tough at first, but I realized it’s the best thing for my career, if I’m back in the OHL this year, to play with a contender and continue to develop,” said Ceci.
In exchange, Ottawa gets rookie defenceman Jacob Middleton and right winger Joseph Blandisi.
Ceci is expected to get a shot at Sens training camp, which could open as early as this weekend.
“Going in I want to make it a tough decision for Senators,” said Ceci. “I know there’s a spot open because of injury, and I think it’s going to be a really competitive camp.”
Ceci also revealed the Sens supported the trade to Owen Sound, and the club likes him playing with a contender.
Meanwhile, 67’s GM and head coach Chris Byrne said the trade is for the future of the team.
“For us it makes sense to try and move some of our older guys for younger guys,” said Byrne. “We think by doing this it gives us a better chance to win sooner than waiting and holding on to guys who won’t be back next season.
“You don’t like to have to move players like Cody, but very happy for the time he spent here,” Byrne added. “What a quality person he is, and his family who are also great supporters of the Ottawa 67’s.”
The deal comes just two days after the club traded star forward Tyler Graovac to the Belleville Bulls.
