OTTAWA, Ont – A group of Orleans high school students with thousands of dollars on the line will take a two week trip to China that’s been in the works for more than a year.
Students were concerned they wouldn’t be able to make the trip this March without the required two teachers to chaperone.
Teachers at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School are under an order from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation to not participate in extracurricular activities. The order is part of their protest against Bill 115.
Now, the group of students has learned that two teachers will be able to join them after all.
Students started planning for the trip in October of 2011, well before the dispute between the province and teachers unions heated up in the fall of 2012.
