FITZROY HARBOUR, Ont. – Ottawa Police have identified the two bodies inside a vehicle recovered from the icy waters at the Quyon ferry dock, Monday night.
The 2013 Dodge Dart crashed through the ice into the Ottawa River, late last week. The car was pulled from the water Monday at 11:40 p.m.
Two bodies that were found inside the vehicle are now confirmed to be Daron Graves, 28, and his mother Donna Graves, 62, both of Fitzroy Harbour. Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.
The two Graves were last seen Thursday night, when they went to Arnprior for some shopping.
Now, the people who knew the mother and son are struggling to understand why the pair crashed into the river.
“The only people that would know is Donna and Daron,” said Tina Clouthier-Lasalle, a close friend of the family. “Unfortunately, we’ll never know. It’s sad to say that; I wish they were here.”
Clouthier-Lasalle’s husband, Scott, last saw his fishing buddy Daron last week. Before that, Donna was over to babysit the couple’s 22-month-old son.
“(Donna) was always giggly. She loved kids and you could really see it in her,” said Scott Lasalle. “You could really see the kindness in her.”
The Ottawa Police Collision Investigations Unit is still looking into the crash.
