The Mayfair Theatre in Orleans says it’s been forced to close, permanently.
The theatre closed the doors for good, Wednesday morning, and posted a goodbye message on the theatre’s website.
“(The theatre) was doing really great,” said Mayfair owner Lee Demarbre. “After a year of blood, sweat and tears, we finally got to the point where we were doing well.”
Demarbresays they were unable to “see eye-to-eye” with the theatre’s landlord and were forced to close.
The patrons of the Orleans Mayfair are being fondly remembered by Demarbre, like one woman who would come to every Rocky Horror Picture Show and not leave until 2 a.m. — after helping staff tidy up.
“It’s that kind of loyalty you can’t buy, and it’s that kind of loyalty I’ll always think of and cherish,” Demarbre told 1310News.
Demarbresays the Mayfair’s Bank Street location is still open, and he hopes the Orleans patrons will make their way there.
