OTTAWA, Ont. – A weekend kidnapping and robbery of two seniors in west Quebec may have been motivated by revenge.
Quoting a relative, the Sun says, one of the accused was bounced around to several foster homes as a child and claims one of the seniors, who was a neighbour for a time, mistreated him.
Two seniors were kidnapped Friday night near Maniwaki. Police say they were then left tied up inside a barn on an island near Pembroke, but didn’t suffer any major injuries.
Joshua Branker, 22, was in court in Gatineau Tuesday afternoon.
Two Ottawa area teenagers are already facing 14 counts each in the case, including kidnapping and forcible confinement. The pair, who cannot be named because they are minors, will remain in custody until Thursday when they appear in bail court.
The Crown objected to the release of the pair, aged 16 and 17, Monday because of the seriousness of the charges and because the alleged victims were 65 and 70 years old.
