Ottawa named Most Boring City

OTTAWA – According to one Toronto group, Ottawa is the capital of yawns.

The inaugural Boring Awards, held in Toronto Wednesday evening, named Ottawa the most boring city in Canada. The capital beat out other nominee cities like Laval, Quebec and Lethbridge, Alberta.

Calling Ottawa boring isn’t new — after all, we’ve been nicknamed The City That Fun Forgot — but this is probably the first time the city’s ever picked up an award for it.

Ottawa’s mayor disagrees with the distinction — but appears to be taking it in stride.

“I might be the most boring mayor,” Jim Watson joked. “But the city is not boring.”

Watson points to the long list of events that are on this weekend as some of the proof that the city’s got plenty of excitement.

“We just finished the Tulip Festival, (and) the big-name acts that are coming into the city, the Byward Market, the vibrancy of Sens Mile — we are not a boring city,” Watson stated.

One of the city’s most well-known residents — Prime Minister Stephen Harper — was named Most Boring Canadian.  Toronto’s mayor, Rob Ford was named the least-boring Canadian.
