LIMOGES, Ont – Calypso Theme Waterpark unveiled its latest attraction called “Kongo Expedition,” Thursday morning.
The river ride, which cost $7 million dollars to build, takes guests on a soggy, surprise-filled journey through the African savanna.
“You’re like on a tube and it’s kind of like a lazy river but then it’s more intense and there’s more waves,” says Andrew. “I was having so much fun.”
After a 15 minute journey through abandoned beaches and caves, swimmers can cool off at the Kongo Beach family wave pool.

Executive Vice President of the park Sylvain Lauzon says the theme river is good news for sun-seekers looking to cool off, but it’s also good news for the local economy.
“Just for the attraction alone, we hired over 20 aquatic lifeguards and also we got three new restaurants,” says Lauzon. “So it brings a total of 60 new jobs.”
Lauzon says he has already taken a ride around the river.
“It’s quite something I tell you,” he says. “Lots of surprises in there. Honestly, it’s world class.”
