OTTAWA – The historic Carriage House in Sandy Hill is getting a new lease on life.
The large, white, 2-storey brick house at 43 Blackburn Ave. features a sprawling garden and wrought iron fence, and went on the market in February of 2012 for $1.4 million.
A group of neighbours looking to preserve the landmark building, and keep it from turning into a multi-level rooming house, banded together, and bought it for just shy of $1 million.
Spokesperson for the group, Leanne Moussa, told the Citizen the plan is to convert the ground level into a daycare centre for 39 preschoolers and toddlers.
The second floor will house the Child Adolescent and Family Centre of Ottawa, with pediatricians, child psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and social workers.
Renovations on the home should be finished by the fall.
