Two planes clip wings at Ottawa Airport

OTTAWA – Nerves are a bit frayed for some travellers at the Ottawa Airport.

Two WestJet planes clipped wings as they were being taxied from the tarmac to the runway Friday morning.

“I think people are kind of rattled,” said Steven Staples, who was on one of the planes headed for Vancouver. “No one had seen this happen before.”

“Even the crew remarked that they had never been on a plane that had actually struck another plane,” Staples said. “I think it’s a fairly uncommon occurrence.”

No one was injured.

The planes were checked for damage and the Vancouver-bound flight eventually took off after an hour-and-a-half delay.

There is no word on takeoff for the second plane, or where it was headed.
