Nova Scotians warned about smoke drifting from Labrador forest fire

HALIFAX – Environment Canada has issued a statement warning Nova Scotia residents about poor air quality as a forest fire continues to burn in Labrador.
The department’s special air quality statement says smoke from fires burning in Labrador and along James Bay has moved over a wide swath of the province.
The statement, issued jointly with Nova Scotia’s Health and Wellness Department, says the smoke may descend close to the ground, reducing the air quality.
The warning applies to all areas east of Annapolis and Lunenburg counties, including the Halifax area and Cape Breton.
A large forest fire has been burning for more than a week near the town of Wabush in western Labrador, where a state of emergency remains in effect.
It has consumed about 700 square kilometres.
