Non-residential building construction down in second quarter: Statistics Canada

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says investment in non-residential building construction fell 3.4 per cent to $12.5 billion in the second quarter of the year.
The agency says the drop came after five quarters in a row of growth.
It says lower investment in Quebec — mostly because of a strike by construction workers — was the main cause of the decline.
Statistics Canada says decreases in eight other provinces and territories also contributed.
The agency says investment fell in 23 of 34 census metropolitan areas, with the largest declines in Montreal, Edmonton and Toronto.
However, investment was up in Hamilton and Calgary.
