Humidex advisory ends for Ottawa

OTTAWA – Ottawa is no longer under a humidex advisory, although we won’t see complete relief from the heat Thursday. The forecast is calling for a high near 29 degrees Celsius, with a humidex near 37 degrees.
Ottawa almost broke a heat record on Wednesday; however, we came up just short.
“Seven areas broke records for the high yesterday, but Ottawa wasn’t one of them,” said 1310 meteorologist Jill Taylor. “We were very close again; 34.1 was the decimal temperature at the airport. The record is 34.4, set in 1953.”
On Tuesday, the temperature reached 33.2 degrees, just missing the benchmark of 33.9 degrees set back in 1968. However, eight temperature records were broken across the province including Petawawa, which was Ontario’s hottest spot at a temperature of 34.5 degrees.
On Monday, the capital nudged close to a single day record which was 33.3 degrees back in 1969, but came up just shy at 33.2 degrees.
Things are forecast to get more comfortable as we head closer to the weekend.
“It will still be quite muggy,” said Jill. “It may take until Saturday to totally flush out the humidity.”
