LONDON – The Royal Baby has been named George Alexander Louis.
Palace officials said the infant prince, third-in-line to the throne, will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
Earlier in the day, the baby met his great-grandmother, the Queen. The 87-year-old monarch made a short trip from Buckingham Palace and spent about half an hour visiting the two-day-old baby at Kensington Palace.
The royal baby spent a first night at home with his parents, Prince William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, after he made his public debut on outside St. Mary’s Hospital in London on Tuesday.
He is the Queen’s third great-grandchild and the third in line to the British throne.
It was a special visit given that the new prince is going to secure the future of the throne for another two generations.
“It’s a moment for one head of state meeting a future head of state, and a great-grandmother meeting her great-grandson, and also seeing William – she’s very close to – with his child for the first time. It’s a family moment, but it’s also a state occasion,” CNN reporter Max Foster said.
While the world had to wait two days to learn Prince George’s name, it was a much longer wait for previous monarchs-to-be; the Queen did not announce the name of William’s father, Prince Charles, until a month after his birth in 1948. William’s name was announced a week after he was born.
According to news reports, the Duke and Duchess, along with their son, are now at Middleton family home in Bucklebury, in Berkshire.
