Long weekend weather heating up in Ottawa

While showers are still possible, Mother Nature could be making up for the cooler-than-usual start to spring this year with a sunny — and even hot — long weekend.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are hovering around normal on Friday with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon. The 21 C temperatures will dip to 9 C overnight, as some clouds roll in to the city on Saturday.

The high is set to be around 23 C, before the sun is set to push on for both Sunday and Monday.

On Victoria Day, temperatures will be summer-like, a heated 28 C, the weather agency says, with cloudy periods possible. The hot temperatures are likely to persist into Tuesday with a high of 29 C, before it returns closer to normal mid-week.

It’s expected to be the warmest weather in the city this year.

This comes after the nation’s capital and most of the province have experienced a cooler-than-normal spring. Wet weather dominated the conversations as parts of the Ottawa River were under a flood warning.

Switching abruptly, temperatures swayed to a dry in the south end of the city, which saw several grass fires started, prompting the fire department to issue a burn ban.
