A head-on collision between two passenger trains in Switzerland has injured at least 44 people.

The two trains collided in western Switzerland, about 50 kilometres southwest of the capital city of Bern.

Local reports say 44 people have been injured in the crash – four of those, seriously.

Rescue operations are still under way, and photos of the scene from local media show the mangled wreckage of the two trains still on the tracks.
