No injuries reported after explosion at Cornwall, Ont., chemical plant

CORNWALL, Ont. –  All workers are safe and accounted for after an explosion at a chemical plant in Cornwall Tuesday morning.

Police and firefighters were called to the BASF plant on Wallrich Avenue just after 6 a.m.

Cornwall police Const. Dan Cloutier says the scale of the explosion was “relatively small”.   Police have given the area the “all clear”.

Clouthier tells 1310News at no point was there a fire.  “The sealed vessel that ruptured contained some product”.

BASF is a global chemical corporation which manufactures monomeric and polymeric plasticizers.

Clouthier expects the Ministry of Labour and T.S.S.A will be called in to investigate.

The Cornwall plant has nearly 30 employees.
