Terry Fox run hit area streets Sunday

OTTAWA – It’s another sign that summer is almost in the books, as the 33rd annual Terry Fox run took over Anniversary park near Carleton University on Sunday.

Hundreds of runners, walkers and biker all took to Colonel By Drive to lend their support to cancer research and to honour the Canadian legend Fox.

Lynda was at the run supporting her friend Wayne.

“He’s been recently re-diagnosed with terminal cancer and we’ve put together a team of about 40 people to show our support,” Lynda said.

“It’s touched me personally, I lost my father to cancer five years ago as well as other family members.”

Lynda she also remembers running the Tokyo, Japan Terry Fox run in 1993.

It was an open start and finish so participants could start and finish all day, choosing between one, five and ten kilometer routes.

Kids were also out showing their support with signs of encouragement for mom and dad, or getting their face painted.

Runs were also held in Kanata, Orleans and Manotick.

$600 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research since the first Terry Fox run in 1980, including $12 million alone in Ontario.
