Man charged in connection to convenience store robberies

OTTAWA – An Ottawa man faces charges related to two robberies at the same convenience store.
Around 10:30 p.m. on November 6, a disguised man entered a Mac’s convenience store on Innes Road in Blackburn Hamlet.
The man, armed with a knife, made a demand for cash and cigarettes, and threatened the employee. There were no injuries.
Then around 11:30 p.m. on November 16, a disguised man entered the same store, again armed with a knife, and made a demand for cash and cigarettes.
A passer-by witnessed the second robbery in progress, contacted police, and provided a description of the suspect.
A responding officer found the suspect a short distance from the store and a short foot pursuit ensued before he was arrested.
Michael McIlwaine, 31, faces the following charges:
-Two counts of robbery
-Two counts of wearing a disguise
-Two counts of possession of a weapon in the commission of an offence
-One count of carry a concealed weapon
-One count of utter threats
-One count of resisting arrest
He is scheduled for a court appearance Monday.
