Funeral for student stabbed outside post-prom party

OTTAWA – The funeral for a young man stabbed to death during a post-prom party downtown is being laid to rest Friday.

Brandon Volpi, 18 of Ottawa, was stabbed outside Les Suites Hotel on Besserer Street around 3:30 a.m. Saturday following post-prom celebrations. He was stabbed in the throat and chest, and later died in hospital.

Visitation was held Thursday at the Kelly Funeral Home Walkley Chapel. A memorial has also been set up on his locker at St. Patrick’s High School on Alta Vista, and a memorial continues to grow outside the hotel.

Meantime, police continue to search for Devontay Hackett, 18, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection to the murder.

He is believed to be armed and dangerous.
