OTTAWA – Although Canada Day isn’t until Tuesday, many Canadians are gearing up for a super-sized long weekend, with many taking Monday off.
The long weekend means Ontario Provincial Police will be out cracking down on speeding and distracted drivers.
So far this year, 113 people have been killed on the roads with speed being the number one factor, followed by distracted driving and driving under the influence.
Meantime, provincial police say this has already been a bad year for boating deaths.
Eleven people have died on the water in Ontario, a number the OPP calls alarming. All the incidents happened in small boats, with nine of those people not wearing life jackets.
Last year at this time, five people had died in boating related incidents.
