Misbahuddin Ahmed found guilty on terrorism charges

OTTAWA — Ontario Superior Court Justice Colin McKinnon says he never enjoys sending anyone to prison, but the terrorism case of Misbahuddin Ahmed is appropriate for doing that.
The judge made the comment after an Ottawa jury convicted Ahmed of conspiring to knowingly facilitate a terrorist activity and participation in the activities of a terrorist group on Friday.
The conspiracy conviction means a possible 14 years in prison, but the jury acquitted Ahmed of the more serious charge of possession of explosives with intent to do harm.
The 30-year-old former Ottawa Civic Hospital technician will be sentenced on September 15th.
He was charged with two alleged co-conspirators.
Khurram Syed Sher, who was a pathologist in St. Thomas Ontario, before his arrest in 2010, was tried by a judge earlier this year on one conspiracy count.
A publication ban was imposed on the identity of the third alleged co-conspirator.
The judge says his Ahmed’s will “inevitably” be lengthy.
