A new study shows human trafficking is an issue in Ottawa.
‘People Against the Crime of Trafficking In Humans’ initiated the report called ‘Project Impact.”
It showed most victims are women between the ages of 12 and 25, and 16-year-olds are the most vulnerable to traffickers.
The report said girls as young as nine are targeted at social housing complexes, bus stations and parties.
Lead author Elise Vohl-Bold told 1310News trafficking isn’t concentrated in one area.
“Sometimes it might be happening within the family,” said Vohl-Bold, “They’re being trafficked and exploited within their families.”
She said 90 per-cent of victims in the capital are Canadian, and from Ottawa.
Ottawa was studied for nine months and 140 victims were identified.
