National Peacekeepers’ Day on Saturday

OTTAWA – Saturday marks National Peacekeepers’ Day – a day to honour and remember all past and present Canadian peacekeepers.
This year marks 25 years of their contributions to international peace operations.
To mark the anniversary, police officers from across Canada will participate in a ceremony on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Police, RCMP and the Ottawa Police Service Pipers and Drums will march from the War Memorial on Elgin to the Peacekeeping Monument on Sussex Drive.
The date was chosen to commemorate August 9th, 1974 when 9 Canadian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Emergency Force in Egypt and Israel lost their lives when their plane was shot down over Syria.
The flags at all City of Ottawa sites will be flown at half-mast from sunrise until sunset.
