OC Transpo Bus 76 to retire number

OTTAWA — In light of the fatal bus-train collision in Barrhaven last year that killed six people, OC Transpo will retire route number 76 on August 29.

It will now be numbered route 72.

The decision to retire the route number was made after consulting with the families of those involved in the crash.

The new route 72 makes its first trip on September 2.

The fatal collision on route 76 happened on September 18, 2013, killing Connor Boyd, Michael Bleakney, Karen Krzyzewski, Kyle Nash, Rob More, and bus driver David Woodard.

Flags at city facilities will be lowered to half-mast on September 18 and a moment of silence will be held during a transit meeting the day before.

There are also plans to install a commemorative plaque to mark the anniversary of the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board has an ongoing investigation into the crash..
