Severe thunderstorms in Ottawa and Gatineau

OTTAWA — Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, Kanata, Orleans and Gatineau, in addition to areas west of the capital Friday afternoon.

A warning means severe weather is occurring or is imminent.

Heavy torrential rainfall wreaked havoc on the roads, causing some flooding, knocking down trees, power lines, and leaving over 8,000 in Ottawa without power.

Ottawa police worked to direct traffic in certain areas while fire crews attended to reported structure damage, and possible lightning strikes.
