McRae not seeking re-election in River ward

OTTAWA – River ward councillor Maria McRae will not be seeking re-election when voters head to the ballot box on October 27.
McRae, 48, announced her intention on Friday in a letter sent to her constituents.
She has represented the ward since 2003 and is the sixth veteran councillor to announce they will not be running this fall.
McRae said she only recently decided she would not be running again for council and said it was a difficult decision to make.
McRae is the chairwoman of city council’s environment committee, and in the past has chaired the transportation committee, licence committee and the board of directors at Ottawa Community Housing.
Current councillors Peter Hume, Steve Desroches, Diane Holmes, Rainer Bloess and Doug Thompson will also not seeking re-election.
There are three people registered to run so far in River ward to replace McRae: Antonio Giannetti, Jeff Koscik and Colin Pennie.
Nominations for those wishing to run for council close on September 12 at 2 p.m.
