Jury selection continues for Luka Magnotta murder trial

MONTREAL – Jury selection at Luka Rocco Magnotta’s murder trial is to continue Wednesday in a Montreal courtroom.
The justice system moved quicker than expected Tuesday as the first five jurors were selected.
The five jurors, three women and two men, were sworn in by Justice Guy Cournoyer and read a set of rules by which they were bound.
The process will continue until 16 people are chosen, 14 jurors and two alternates. Ultimately, 14 jurors will hear the case and a dozen will deliberate on a final verdict.
Magnotta, 32, has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including first-degree murder.
He’s accused in the May 2012 slaying and dismemberment of 33-year-old Chinese engineering student Jun Lin.
The trial is set to begin hearing evidence on September 22.
