Tuberculosis testing to begin at local school

OTTAWA – Students at Gisele-Lalond High School in Orleans start tuberculosis skin testing Monday.

In September, Ottawa Public Health issued a letter stating that students might have been exposed TB between September 15 and December 24, 2013.

The incubation period is two – twelve weeks, and risk for developing the active disease is the highest in the first two years after infection.

Public Health says 90 per cent of people infected with TB never contract the disease, and risk of transmission in school is low.
