One man killed, another in custody after pedestrian struck on 417

OTTAWA –One man was killed and another was taken in to custody Friday night after a fatal collision on the Queensway.

Police say the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 417 at Nicholas, when a man walking on the highway was struck by a car.

The man was struck a second time by what is believed to be an OC Transpo bus.

The 24-year-old driver of the car, Fuad Ahmed of Ottawa, fled the scene but was later located and arrested for failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

It’s not known why the man was walking on the highway.

Police have not identified the man killed, and say they are waiting to confirm his identity through an autopsy.

The 417 westbound between Vanier Parkway and Nicholas was shut down while police investigated and has since re-opened.

Anyone with who may have witness the crash is asked to call OPP.
