OTTAWA – Full enforcement of the Canadian Tire Centre’s updated bag policy is going into effect.
The new rules, modeled after a similar policy in the National Football League and the National Hockey League, will only allow patrons to bring small soft-sided handbags, diaper bags and bags specifically required for medical purposes.
Backpacks, coolers and duffle bags will not be permitted inside the CTC.
The CTC first updated the policy in September, and have been providing fans time to become educated and get accustomed to the new rules.
Now for security reasons, there will be zero tolerance for any bags that don’t meet the approved criteria.
“We felt it important to clearly communicate our change in policy to our fans,” Tom Conroy vice-president and executive director of Canadian Tire Centre said in a statement. “We feel we have provided ample time for fans to adjust their patterns of bringing bags to games.”
The policy covers all hockey games, shows and events, and will start Thursday when the Ottawa Senators take on the Montreal Canadiens.
