Science and Technology museum landmarks to come down

OTTAWA — Two iconic structures are being removed from the grounds of the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology.

The Atlas rocket and the oil pumpjack will both be removed due to their deteriorating condition. They have been on the grounds for 40 years and the museum says are now a safety hazard.

The rocket will be dismantled and disposed of. The pumpjack will be stored at the museum, which has been closed since September when mould was found and it was discovered that the roof was in danger of collapse.

The museum is scheduled to reopen in 2017.
