New Lansdowne movie theatre, offering in-seat food and wine service, opens Friday

OTTAWA — Leather power recliners, in-seat food and drink service and 19+ areas are some of the features of Ottawa’s newest movie theatre.

Cineplex Cinemas Lansdowne opens Friday, where movie-goers will be able to experience the company’s first VIP theatres in Ottawa.

“Until the trailers begin, we’ll be taking orders in-seat,” explained Mike Langdon, Cineplex’s director of communications. “We’ll bring you your cocktail, your martini, your glass of wine.”

In addition to drink service, patrons in the VIP theatres can also order off an almost-identical menu as in the VIP lounge — which features items that range from deep-fried finger foods to fancier cheese and meat boards.

“The fact that our VIP cinemas are adults-only is a product of the restrictions around the drinking age,” Langdon told 1310News. “But it’s also something that we found our guests enjoy.”

Along with four VIP cinemas, the third floor also features an UltraAVX theatre — which contains a wall-to-wall, ultra high definition screen, souped-up sound system and the D-box: a group of seats that move in sync with the on-screen action.

“D-box motion seats have been hugely popular,” Langdon explained. “They really skew towards a younger audience, towards big Hollywood action films.”

VIP and UltraAVX seats are reserved in advance and cost more than regular admission.

Cineplex Cinemas Lansdowne opens to the public on Friday, March 27.
