Schumer: Phone case that looks like a gun is ‘a disaster waiting to happen’

By The Associated Press

NEW YORK, N.Y. – New York Sen. Charles Schumer says a cellphone case that looks like a gun is a “disaster waiting to happen.”

Schumer is urging online retailers to stop selling it.

Amazon told The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/1HNDxwO ) on Tuesday night that the item was no longer listed on its site.

Law enforcers in New York and elsewhere have been expressing concerns about the foreign-manufactured product for weeks.

Schumer says the case lacks a required, highly visible orange marking that identifies it as harmless.

The senator says advertisements indicate it can be displayed in a pocket, as if it’s a real weapon.

He says the case also can be used with a Russian roulette app that transforms the phone’s screen into the image of a gun barrel.
