Temperatures soaring across the province are expected to peak on Tuesday, but heat will persist into possibly Thursday.
In the nation’s capital, temperatures will be 35 C, but it will feel closer to 43 when factoring in the humidity. A chance of showers is possible in the late afternoon, forecasters from Environment Canada said.
“Tuesday will mark the peak of this heat event,” warn meteorologists. “Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category.”
There is little relief in temperatures, as it will be 20 C on Tuesday and Wednesday overnight.
It’s expected to get progressively “hazy” according to the forecast. In the afternoon and evening on July 14, the Air Quality Health Index for the nation’s capital will increase to a moderate risk.
The weather agency predicts the heat event will end either Wednesday or Thursday evening, depending on how fast the air mass moves out of the province.
