OPP host blood donor drive

OTTAWA–Organizers of the OPP sponsored blood drive on this afternoon at Canadian blood services hope you’ll slide by and donate a pint.
Sergeant Daril Holmes says he gave himself all of those same reminders we all do, after all, in his line of work he sees people who wind up needing it — as car crash victims, or medical emergencies.

But it was when his then 8-year old son son was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia that it really hit home.
“If it were not for Canadian Blood Services and people donating blood, and also through their stem cell bone marrow registry, Matthew wouldn’t be here today,” he said.
After 2-1/2 years of treatment, Holmes said his son is though the heaviest part of the treatment (which can require up to five-units of blood a week), so the importance of donating blood was multiplied for him.

He encourages groups and workplaces to investigate the program Partners For Life, that reminds people about making blood donation a regular practice.

The drive runs until 7:30 at the location on Carling Avenue.
