Police draft budget proposes $7.2 million increase

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Police Services Board has tabled it’s 2016 draft budget.
The police budget proposes a $7.2 million increase in 2016, which would mean an $11 increase on the average property tax bill. The net operating budget is $277.1 million.
The service will also add 25 new officers through spending efficiencies.
“What’s going to change, is we’re going to hire the 25 police officers and their pay is going to come from efficiency within our own budget,” says board chair Eli El-Chantiry.
The board will hear public delegations, before the final vote on is held November 30.
