Redblacks chainsaw crew cut from team

WINNIPEG – The Ottawa Redblacks will have to go at a Grey Cup without their touchdown celebration tradition.
A chainsaw squad from the forestry technician program and Loggersports team at Algonquin College in Pembroke is known for cutting a “cookie” off a log after a touchdown from the home team at TD Place.
The crew was told last week they would be able to attend the final game in Winnipeg to perform their touchdown celebration traditions, but on Saturday, after the group scrambled to buy plane tickets to Winnipeg and find accommodations, they were told by the CFL that the decision was reversed.
The Canadian Football League later said they will be allowed on the sideline but will not be allowed to perform their tradition, saying the touchdown celebration will not be allowed “in response to concerns raised.”
Calgary’s touchdown horse, “Quick six” who gallops down the side line after a Stamps touchdown was allowed at the 2014 Grey Cup in B.C, but it should be noted that the horse was banned from performing its duties in 2012 at the Rogers Center because of “safety concerns”.
Following on the heels of the Rough Riders and Renegades, the second-year Redblacks are looking to bring Ottawa its 10th Grey Cup win.
Ottawa’s last appearance in the CFL championship game was a 1981 loss to Edmonton.
