Hydro One customers won’t be joining Hydro Ottawa grid

OTTAWA – After six months of negotiations, Hydro Ottawa has announced it won’t be acquiring tens of thousands of customers within city limits from Hydro One.
For now, 45,000 Hydro One customers in the outlying areas of the city will have to disconnect any dream of joining the Hydro Ottawa power grid. Some Ottawa residents pay an average 30 per cent more on their power bills than their city counterparts.
Hydro One customers are mostly rural, including Uplands, Cumberland and North Gower —- but even splits Orleans in two.
While details on how much it would cost to bring those customers over haven’t been released, in a letter to city council, Hydro Ottawa CEO Bryce Conrad says it would be financially irresponsible to acquire them.
