A Smiths Falls hockey player who was injured in a tournament is being honoured by the NHL’s E.J. Mcguire Award of Excellence.
Neil Doef, 19, is going to walk on stage at the 2016 NHL Draft with the help of a walking pole, something doctors would have thought improbable 18 months ago.
Doef was a rising star on the Smiths Falls Bears when he suffered a spinal cord injury during a hockey game in December of 2014, derailing his career plans.
