OTTAWA – Childcare workers at three YMCA locations have agreed to a tentative labour deal after they held a one-day strike.
Workers at the Taggart Family Y on Argyle Avenue, Ruddy Family Y on Centrum Boulevard and Avalon Public School on Portobello Boulevard held picket lines outside the daycares on Tuesday.
The workers, who are demanding increased pay and better working conditions, have been without a contract for more than a year.
Employees are fighting over issues that include high staff turnover, poor continuity of care for vulnerable children, unstable workplaces and recruitment and retention of skilled workers.
